Job Description:


Position Overview:
Siemens Healthineers Molecular Imaging, a $1 Billion Business Unit within Siemens Medical Solutions US, has an opening for an Electrical Engineer at our Rockford, TN location. We are a high-technology business leading the change towards personalized medicine. The selected candidate will join the Detector Center Research & Development department, responsible for the development and lifecycle of the current product and next generation of Molecular Imaging PET Detectors.

Successful candidate will possess a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, digital and analog design practices and be capable of translating functional requirements into efficient working designs. Successful candidate will be required to be a hands on engineer. Candidates will utilize their technical expertise to provide imaginative, thorough, and practical organizationally aligned solutions to new development and sustaining challenges. Candidates must be comfortable with the application of technical theories and concepts in developmental environments and have some level of general knowledge of other related disciplines. Candidates must be comfortable in an environment where quick, innovative and cost saving solutions work hand in hand with trouble shooting and sustaining of existing design platforms. Candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to work independently, yet collaboratively, in multidisciplinary team environment.

This Role will include the following responsibilities:
Design and develop complex electronics for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) detectors throughout the complete lifecycle: high-level design, concept research, simulation, prototype evaluation, performance testing, system integration testing, manufacturing launch and sustaining through commercialization.
·     Develop hardware specifications, design electro-mechanical systems applying knowledge of digital and analog circuitry.
·     Use knowledge and experience to troubleshoot system, circuit board and component level failures.
·     Work closely with engineers and technicians from multiple disciplines to architect, develop, integrate and test designs for prototype and production systems. Understands hardware, software and optical interfaces for area of responsibility.
·     Design for reliability, testability (ICT and Functional Test), manufacturability and cost targets.
·     Properly documents hardware PCB assembly design (Bill of Materials, Schematic, PCB Layout) throughout the product release stages: proof-of-concept, prototype (Initial Release) through design improvements (Engineering Change Orders).
·     Establish and maintain thorough and accurate engineering log books, data sets, test procedures and generally adhere to formal documentation practices required for medical device products.
·     Conduct and participate in hardware specification, schematic, and board layout reviews.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
·     Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
·     Experience in design and development of PCB schematics.
·     Strong electrical engineering background and sound technical fundamentals in electronics theory and product design.
·     Experience in low noise signal conditioning utilizing op-amps, power managements, and various interfaces (I2C, SPI, Ethernet, LVDS, CAN, etc.)
·     Experienced user of test equipment including (but not limited to): oscilloscope, logic analyzer, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, and vector network analyzer.
·     Experienced user of Mentor Graphics DxDesigner schematic capture (or equivalent tools).
·     Experience meeting deliverables on time and within budget.
·     Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
·     Occasional travel is required to global supply chain partners, collaboration partners and Siemens MI offices in Hoffman Estates, IL and Knoxville, TN.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
·     Nuclear detector physics and electronics knowledge.
·     Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent disciplines
·     Experience with Mentor Graphics Expedition (or equivalent) layout and routing design tools.
·     Experience with Mentor Graphics Hyperlynx (or equivalent) signal and power integrity tools.
·     Experience with SPICE simulation (NI Multisim, PSpice, LTspice, Tina-TI, etc).
·     Knowledge and experience using data acquisition software (NI LabVIEW, MathWorks MATLAB and Simulink)
·     Advanced computer skills, including MS Office and Visio.
·     Experience designing high-speed multi-layer PCBs.
·     Electrical engineering background in microprocessor and FPGA based mixed signal embedded systems, ADC/DAC control, and various analog sensor signals.
·     Experience with Altera and/or Xilinx FPGA design and verification tools.
·     Microcontroller Unit (MCU) firmware and software programming
·     Digital embedded systems and System-on-Chip (SoC) firmware and software programming
