A reciprocating engine is the most common type of engine used in vehicles. It usually is 4 stroke or 2 stroke and has varying amount of cylinders. There are two options for combustion type, spark ignition or pressure ignition.
The main difference between these two types of engines is the movement of the crankcase and cylinders in the rotary engine does not happen in the reciprocating engine.
