How They Work. Disc Brakes

A disc brake is a type of brake that uses calipers to squeeze pairs of pads against a disc. This is how friction is created, so this action retards the rotation of a shaft, such as a vehicle axle to reduce its rotational speed or to hold it. The most commonly used form of brakes for motor vehicles are the hydraulically actuated disc brakes. The main components of a disk brakes are the brake pads, caliper, caliper support, rotor.
