incredible Split Turbo by Mercedes F1 Engineers

Why they split the turbo’s components up??? We find out that splitting the turbo and compressor allowing them to run a car with smaller air inlets and narrower bodywork for less drag. Great solution, the compressor sits at the front of the engine while the turbine components hang off the rear, connected with a shaft. This excellent tech video below, explains why Mercedes F1’s split turbo is just so effective.
