Make your own battery using copper coins, vinegar, foil and cardboard. I had enough energy to power an LED with mine and also a TV remote! Really simple science project and easy to do yourself.
This method of generating electricity was discovered in 1800 by Alessandro Volta. His voltaic pile was the first wet cell battery to produce a reliable steady current of electricity.
A coin battery is similar to fruit battery experiments, except that the fruit’s part is replaced by a small amount of salt water. It’s an easy science project to do, especially if a project like the lemon battery has already been performed.
Steps For Making The Coin Battery:
Step 1: Mix cider vinegar & salt
Step 2: Cut out blotter paper
Step 3: Tear aluminum foil
Step 4: Soak blotted paper
Step 5: Build the battery
Step 6: Let battery charge
Step 7: Touch LED’s leads
Make sure the foil is only making contact where it’s supposed to. If it’s touching more than one quarter, or another piece of foil, your battery may not work.
